About Albania
Albania has no operating coal plants. It also has no coal plants under construction or in planning stages. It is a member of the Powering Past Coal Alliance (PPCA), which is committed to phasing out coal and switching to cleaner energy sources. The Porto Romano power station was a proposed 800 megawatt (MW) coal-fired power station by Italian energy company Enel. Beyond the Enel website, there has been no publicly available information about any progress on the project since approximately 2010. The project is presumed to be cancelled. Albania uses hydro power plants for most of its electricity needs.
